Extreme Edge, ridden by Robert Munoz, held off last year’s filly and mare champion, Montani, for a head decision in the fifth race Monday at Playfair, running the Playfair Course in 1:16 4/5 for a $7.20 payoff.

In the eighth, which carried a $4,000 purse, largest non-stakes prize this season, Ought To Burn made it five victories in 10 starts this year with a powerful finish under jockey Vince Graffagnini. Ought To Burn, never worse than third this year, paid $4.40.
