Idaho Wins 41st At Home, Beats Msu

Tzvetelina Yanchulova had 20 kills and 10 digs Saturday as Idaho (6-1, 17-4) beat visiting Montana State 15-0, 15-10, 15-8 in a Big Sky Conference volleyball match at Moscow.

The opening game was the first conference shutout since 1987 for UI, which has won 41 consecutive home matches. Brandy Anderson had 12 kills for the Bobcats (3-4, 14-5).

Sarah Silvernail had 10 kills and five blocks to lead fifth-ranked Washington State (8-1, 16-1) to a 15-4, 15-4, 15-9 win over host Oregon at Eugene as the Pacific-10 Conference season reached its halfway point.

Shannon Wyckoff added 12 digs and eight kills, and Keren Oigman four aces and six blocks for the Cougars, who matched their win total from last year. Shelby Edwards had 11 kills and Allison White 11 digs for the Ducks (1-8, 7-11).

Sheri Vinion had 13 kills and 10 digs as visiting Montana (3-4, 9-10) came from behind in two games to beat Eastern Washington 15-9, 15-9, 15-11 in a Big Sky match at Cheney.

Kellie Glaus had eight kills and six digs for the Eagles (0-7, 3-15), who led the first game 9-4 and the second game 8-2.

Cross country

Eastern’s men and Gonzaga’s women won Division I team titles at EWU’s Invitational at Finch Arboretum.

College of Southern Idaho led non-Division I teams with 30 points in the men’s race and 28 in the women’s. North Idaho’s men were second with 37 points, topped by Tim Panckhurst (25 minutes, 15 seconds over 4.5 miles) in 14th. Gini Lehrman (20:06 for 3 miles), in 20th, led the Cardinals women.

WSU’s women, with 143 points, finished in sixth place and the Idaho women (226) ninth at the Jeff Drenth Invitational at Eugene, Ore.

Champion Oregon scored 34, while runner-up Washington scored 54 and had the individual champion with Tara Carlson. The senior ran the 5,000 meters in 17:29.6.

Maggie Hurst (18:31.8), in 19th, led Idaho.

WSU (168) also took sixth in the men’s meet, while Idaho (284) was 11th. Frank Bruder of Idaho ran the 8,000 in 25:22.4 and placed 17th.
