Horse Fractures Ankle

Maria’s Mon, the leading candidate for 2-year-old champion and for next year’s Kentucky Derby, fractured an ankle while galloping at Belmont Park, was withdrawn from the Breeders’ Cup next week and will not race again until next spring.

The colt underwent surgery to bind the break, described as a non-displaced fracture of the left front ankle.
