Clarkston Clinches Title For Fourth Time Since ‘91

Amy Metcalf served 14 consecutive third-game points Tuesday as Clarkston (10-0) beat visiting Riverside 15-4, 15-6, 15-3 to clinch at least a tie for the Frontier League volleyball title.

Crystal Poskey added eight assists and six digs for the Bantams, also champs from 1991-93. Erin Nelson had four kills and four digs for the Rams (0-10).

Clarkston’s closest pursuer, East Valley (7-2), beat visiting Colville 15-2, 15-10, 10-15, 15-9 as Kelli Haye had 11 aces, including three to complete the fourth game.

Farrah Parsley had 11 kills and eight blocks for EV. Paige Quistad led Colville (3-7) with nine kills and five digs.

Pullman (5-4) tied West Valley for third place as Molly Fisher had 14 kills and six blocks in a 16-14, 15-8, 15-9 win at Cheney.

After a close opener, the Greyhounds streaked ahead 11-1 in the second game. Erin Kapiko had 13 kills and Beth Madison 12 assists for the Blackhawks (3-6).

Girls soccer

Alisha Smith scored twice in the first 7 minutes as first-place EV (8-0-2) tuned up for Thursday’s big match with Deer Park/ Riverside by beating visiting Pullman 6-0.

Kristina Manchester assisted on two first-half goals and scored in the second half for the Knights. EV has 18 points and leads DP/ R (8-2-0) by two points with two matches left. Sarah Chandler made 12 saves for the Greyhounds (0-10-1).

Jill Thompson had two goals and three assists in DP/R’s 13-0 home win over Medical Lake (3-8-0) at Chattaroy. Bernice Stime scored three times, Melanie Erickson had three assists, and Katie Bowers and Brooke Dornquaft scored twice apiece.

West Valley (6-1-3) remained three points out of first as Sherry Shollenburger and Dawn Salfer scored three times apiece in an 8-0 win at Colville (1-8-1). The Eagles broke a third-place tie with Cheney (6-3-1), which played a non-league match.

Class B volleyball

Defending State B champion Wilbur-Creston (9-0) clinched the Bi-County League title with a 15-0, 15-4 spanking of second-place Reardan (8-2) at Wilbur.

St. John-Endicott (8-1) clinched at least a tie for the Whitman County title with a 15-7, 15-2 win over visiting LaCrosse-Washtucna at St. John. The league season ends Thursday, with SJE at Tekoa-Oakesdale (7-2).

Northwest Christian (7-1) put the finishing touches on its Panorama South Division title with a 15-2, 15-1, 15-0 win over visiting Cusick.

At Hunters, visiting Inchelium (6-1) clinched at least a tie for the Panorama North title with a 15-11, 8-15, 15-11, 15-1 win at Columbia (5-2).
