Prime-Time Baseball Ratings Down

Associated Press

Instead of rising because of regional telecasts, ratings for the baseball playoffs declined 1 percent from the prime-time average two years ago.

The six nights of league championship series games averaged a 13.1 rating and 22 share, Nielsen Media Research said Wednesday.

Including all 12 games two years ago, including afternoon games, the rating was up 9 percent from 11.8.

By regionalizing coverage, officials had hoped to boost ratings. But because of fan objections, regionalization will be scrapped next year. Day games will be on cable.
