Girl Hospitalized After Collision

From Staff And Wire Reports

A 5-year-old girl was in serious condition late Thursday at a Spokane hospital after the car she was riding in struck a pickup on state Highway 27 south of Latah.

Kristena L. Morgan was taken by medical helicopter to Sacred Heart Medical Center after suffering a broken leg and head injuries in the accident, the Washington State Patrol said.

The girl was riding with her mother, Shelly L. Garber, of Latah, when the accident occurred about 8 a.m., the State Patrol said.

Richard D. Burnham of Spokane, was driving a 1976 GMC pickup. Neither he nor his passenger were injured, the State Patrol said.

Burnham was driving southbound 10 to 15 mph with his right turn signal flashing when Garber’s 1984 Toyota Celica struck his pickup from behind, the State Patrol said.

All four people wore seat belts, according to the State Patrol.
