Ducks’ Hopes Look Doomed After Loss To Asu

Jake Plummer engineered two touchdown drives in the final 5 minutes Saturday as Arizona State came from behind to upset 10th-ranked Oregon 35-24 at Eugene, Ore.

The lead changed hands four times in the second half, with the Sun Devils (2-3, 4-4) going ahead for good 28-24 when tight end Steve Bush made a diving, fingertip catch of a 3-yard touchdown pass from Plummer on fourth-and-1 with 4:12 to play. Oregon dropped to 3-2, 6-2.

At Pasadena, Calif., the No. 24 Bruins finally beat the Bears, enabling coach Terry Donahue to catch former Washington coach Don James in the Pacific-10 Conference record book.

Donahue has coached UCLA to 97 Pac-10 victories, equaling the conference record held by James, who stepped down as the Washington coach before the 1993 season. The win also improved the Bruins to 3-2, 6-2 while the Bears dropped to 1-4, 2-6.
