Create A Popular Mother’s Day Card

“Roses are red, violets are blue …”

Kids can easily top that when it comes to expressing sentiments of love to mom which is why the American Greetings card company wants children to create a line of 1996 Mother’s Day cards.

If you are a fourth-, fifth- or sixth-grader, you are eligible for the All-American Salute to Mothers national greeting card contest. The grandprize winner receives a $3,500 cash prize and his or her card will be sold in retail stores nationwide for Mother’s Day 1996.

Additional cash and/or prizes will be given to the top 51 semi-finalists, including gifts for their teachers and schools. To enter, students produce an original Mother’s Day card with an illustration and written message using crayon, paint or markers. (Computer generated art is not acceptable.)

The card must be constructed of paper folded in half and no larger than 5 inches wide by 8 inches high with an illustration on the cover and a message inside.

Each entry should include a separate sheet attached to the back of the card with the creator’s name, school, grade, teacher’s name, home address, parent’s name and daytime telephone number, signed by a parent or legal guardian.

Entries must be received by Dec. 8. Winning cards will be published in the May 1996 issue of Family Circle magazine.

Halloween fun: NorthTown Mall offers free Halloween festivities Tuesday beginning at 4 p.m. for face-painting, treats and more.

Children’s musician Tim Noah will perform two kids’ concerts at 4 and 6 p.m. at the Discovery Park Food Court.

Kids can also golf and trick-or-treat with ghosts and goblins on the Haunted Golf Course at Bumpers Fun Castle.
