The Slice Every Season Has Its Minor Dangers

There’s still time to get it fixed in your mind.

Remember, when driving over smashed pumpkins, turn into the skid.

Halloween poll: Taunya Van Pevenage’s third-graders at Harrington Elementary were asked to name their favorite trick-or-treat goodies. And Three Musketeers bars, candy corn and caramel apples came out on top.

Just think. Maybe in a place like Harrington, where there can’t be all that many people who qualify as strangers, you could pass out caramel apples without parents freaking.

A Spokane caller suggested giving out little boxes of Crayons.

Future U.N. secretary general: Mathias Amadine Ronny Oliver, currently 5 months old.

Survey says: “Employed adults between the ages of 30-49 are less likely to rate their boss as being very effective than those either above or below that age bracket.” - press release from Accountants on Call

R. Beaudette’s Leaf Law: “If the leaves are from your neighbor’s tree, return them to him. They are his. If the leaves are from your tree, keep them. They are yours.”

Suggestion box: A Michigan newspaper occasionally asks kids to complete this sentence, “If I were in charge at school, I would….”

Nice idea. Frankly, though, the answers we’ve seen have been pretty boring. Here’s one recent example: “I would have everyone go to school every day and do what I have to do and learn what I have to learn.”

See what we mean? Anyway, you’ve probably guessed where we’re headed with this. Yes, we want Spokane area kids to complete that same sentence. And we are confident that their efforts will be both imaginative and printable.

Today’s Slice question: If it turned out that this is all just a bizarre dream and the Spokane area is actually a sitcom instead of real life, what would be the name of the show?

The reader faxing the best answer by 6 p.m. today will receive a copy of “It’s Obvious You Won’t Survive By Your Wits Alone,” the new “Dilbert” book by Scott Adams.
