Young Bicyclist Dies After Running Stop Sign, Hitting Van

An 11-year-old bicyclist was killed Wednesday after missing a stop sign and colliding with a van at Newman Lake.

Wesley D. Gade, of Newman Lake, died of massive head trauma, the Washington State Patrol said.

The boy was flown to Deaconess Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The boy was not wearing a bicycle helmet.

Dennis B. Stuhlmiller, 24, of Otis Orchards, wasn’t injured in the accident about 4:35 p.m. Wednesday. He was wearing a seat belt.

Gade was headed north on Malvern Road when he ran a stop sign and collided with the right front side of the other vehicle’s cab, the WSP reported.
