Crum Finalist For Michigan Job City Manager Will Interview In Ann Arbor

Spokane City Manager Roger Crum is one of three finalists for the city administrator’s job in Ann Arbor, Mich.

“It’s kind of a surprise to me,” Crum said Friday. “I still don’t know enough to know if this is what I want to do.”

Ann Arbor City Council members spent Thursday night deciding which three of the five original finalists they wanted to have back for in-depth interviews.

Crum was among their final selection.

“All three demonstrated a good, broad background, with experience, depth of knowledge and balance in their lives,” said Ann Arbor Mayor Ingrid Sheldon.

“This is a very large university community, very diverse. We need someone mature who can handle any situation.”

Crum said he hadn’t decided whether he’d accept, but he’s been asked to go back to Ann Arbor at the end of next week. If he does, he’ll spend at least two full days meeting with the city’s department heads and union leaders.

The other candidates are Neal G. Berlin, former city manager of Arvada, Colo., and now a consultant for the Regional Camp Fire Girls and Boys, and Arlene D. Colvin, chief operating officer of Gary, Ind.
