Christian Singles Conference Scheduled
“Celebration III,” the annual Singles United Northwest conference, is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. next Saturday at the Spokane Ag Trade Center.
The daylong conference will cover a variety of topics pertaining to the lifestyle of single Christian adults.
Featured workshops include “Living Single in a Couples World,” “Single Sexuality” and “Managing Your Money as a Single Adult.”
The master of ceremonies is Mike Cornell of KMBI, a Christian radio station.
Registration starts at 11 a.m. Cost is $40, which includes dinner.
New associate pastor
The Rev. David Smith recently joined the staff of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church as an associate pastor.
The 37-year-old minister plans to further develop the church’s youth ministries.
Smith, who moved to Spokane from Upland, Calif., holds a bachelor’s degree in theology from Pacific Coast Baptist Bible College.
Ministry celebration
Otis Manning Ministries of Spokane will host its fifth annual ministry anniversary celebration banquet in the center ballroom at the Sheraton-Spokane Hotel at 5 p.m. Oct. 1.
Johnny Lee Clary, former imperial wizard of the Ku Klux Klan who served a prison term, will be a special guest.
During the 1970s, Clary was a bodyguard for KKK Grand Wizard David Duke. He also became a member of WAR (White Aryan Resistance), a hate group devoted to purging certain races from the nation.
He converted to Christianity after reading biblical passages stating that all races are one.
Today, renouncing his former views, Clary makes frequent appearances on talk shows, and he regularly preaches at High Dimensions Church in Tulsa, Okla.
Gospel singer Beau Williams will entertain.
Williams, who released four R&B-based albums for Capitol Records during the ‘80s, has cut some well-received gospel albums, including “Higher” and “Wonderful.”
He has won a Dove award and received a Grammy nomination.

Covenant turns 15
In honor of its 15th anniversary, Covenant United Methodist Church will hold a weekend celebration today and Sunday.
During the 10 a.m. Sunday worship service, the Rev. Dave Gillespie, founding pastor, will present the sermon he gave when Covenant opened its doors 15 years ago as a mission church of Audubon Methodist.
The Rev. Mike Graef, Covenant’s current minister, and four former members, each of whom entered the ministry, will also participate in the service.
The celebration begins at 4 p.m. today with a carnival followed by a potluck dinner at 6. Line dancing will be from 7 to 9:30.
Divorced? Widowed?
The Beginning Experience of Spokane will conduct a retreat at Twin Lakes, Idaho, for divorced, widowed or separated people Friday through next Sunday.
The program is designed to help people suffering from a painful loss or a broken relationship to move past their grief and learn to cope with their situation.
“I don’t know of anybody who has been through it that’s said a bad thing about it,” said Mike Palmer, Beginning Experience’s vice president. “Some people, when they go through this (a loss), sort of shut themselves away and don’t even realize there are people going through the same sort of thing.”
Beginning Experience is sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Spokane. However, the group, which began here 12 years ago, is open to any Christian.
“I went through the program as a participant about four years ago,” Palmer said. “It did me a lot of good. I’ve changed a lot since I started.”
Beginning Experience will also offer “New Directions,” a 10-week seminar similar to the retreat. Those sessions will be at 7 p.m. Wednesdays, starting Oct. 4, at St. Patrick’s School, 5021 N. Nelson.

Revival
The Coeur d’Alene Pastors Prayer Ministry will present “Bring Back the Glory,” a multimedia presentation that offers a fervent plea for revival.
The program, open to the public, will be at 6 p.m. Sunday in the North Idaho College auditorium.
The Rev. Steve Watt of Seattle will deliver the message. He is a former pastor of the Dayspring Four Gospel Church in Coeur d’Alene.
