At a glance: Lots to get pumped about. Chiefs’ first game in the Arena. Sellout crowd. Long pregame fireworks and video show followed by a hot regional rivalry that got hotter Thursday with the return of Terry Ryan to Tri-City from the Montreal Canadiens. Seventh in the Western Hockey League in scoring last year (50 goals, 60 assists), Ryan is tough, talented and versatile. He’ll play long minutes killing penalties and firing shots on the power play. Chiefs, who man-handled Tri-City in a 6-4 win on opening night last week, are still getting used to their new ice after life in the friendly Boone Street Barn. Technicians are still playing catch-up in the new building as well. A transmitter that will provide radio reception inside the Arena was to be in place by Sept. 17. It’s not. KGA hopes to have a temporary transmission system in place by game time that would put the game at 700 on the AM dial. As for video, technicians are still tinkering with the replay system. Good news is that lines at concession stands that dragged on during the Sept. 17 NHL exhibition should be shortened by the addition of six to eight additional portable concession areas.
