Eklund, Andrews Carry Wv Over Ev

West Valley used 10 hits and 11 walks to roll to a 16-11 victory over rival East Valley in a Frontier League baseball game Tuesday afternoon.

James Eklund and Joe Andrews each drove in two runs for the Eagles (5-4). Eklund had four hits in four at-bats and Andrews was 2 for 3.

WV took a 10-3 lead in the bottom of the fifth, and when the visiting Knights scored five in the top of the sixth, the Eagles responded with a six-run inning.

Steve Pipkin had two hits and three runs batted in for the Knights (6-2).

Mason Seigerman had a two-run double in the second inning to spark Cheney to a 6-4 victory at Pullman.

The Blackhawks scored five runs in the second, only one was earned. The game had 10 runs, 10 hits and 10 errors. Cheney pitchers also walked 10.

Softball

Darcy Sohns struck out 11 and allowed just one hit as West Valley beat Cheney 6-1.

Sohns improved her record to 3-0. Andrea Green had a pair of two-out running-scoring singles for the Eagles (5-0). The Blackhawks (1-4) had an unearned run in the third.

Heather Brown had three of Colville’s 11 hits and the Indians took advantage of 11 walks and six errors to win 17-0 at Riverside.

Heather Wood homered for Colville. Melissa Wollan scattered three hits and had a two-run triple.

Soccer

Quinn Sharpe scored his ninth goal from 18 yards out on a crossing pass from Tony Wacenske to lift West Valley to a 1-0 win over Cheney.

The Eagles (5-0-2) moved into a first-place tie with Riverside/Deer Park.

WV keeper Ryan Kuntz had five saves as Cheney (4-3) had 14 shots. The Eagles had 27 shots and Cheney keeper Patrick Luby made 18 stops.

Mark Ziehnert and Donovan Hodgson scored in the second half to rally Riverside/Deer Park to a 3-1 win over East Valley in Riverside.

Tony Pass put the Knights (5-1-1) up 1-0 with his sixth goal 11 minutes into the game. Ryan Baker’s seventh goal tied it for RDP (6-1) just 7 minutes later.

Hodgson’s eighth goal, in the 57th minute, secured the league lead by one point over EV.

Leonard Porter’s shot from 20 yards in the 47th minute lifted Pullman (2-4) to a 2-1 win at Clarkston (1-4-1).

Medical Lake (2-3-2) beat visiting Colville (0-7) 3-0.
