Web Site Lists Earth-Friendly Products

Karen E. Klages Chicago Tribune

New on the World Wide Web: The Simple Living Network (http:/ /slnet.com/), a site that lists (and sells) more than 2,000 Earth-friendly products and dispenses all sorts of information related to healthful, simple “green” kind of living.

“The nice thing about the Internet is that we are able to take these Earth-friendly missions and reach a lot of people without much environmental impact,” says Dave Wampler, founder of the network and formerly an administrative coordinator for an international environmental organization. Sending out a catalog that contains the same information would take a lot of paper, printing and postage, he continues.

Visitors to the web site can find sources for and actually order recycled toilet paper, handmade quilts, natural baby shampoo, air fresheners, Chinese herbals and books on how to make your home a more non-toxic place. Many other items are also available.

SLNet acts as the store. Orders for these products are processed and filled by the network, not by the individual manufacturer. Complaints are handled this way, too.

A “Schedule of Events” lists radio programs, meetings, seminars and conferences related to green living that are being held across the country.

SLNet also publishes a free monthly E-Newsletter, available only by e-mail, and an on-line directory of natural product retailers and cooperatives for people who are not comfortable with shopping on the Internet.
