Racers Appear Well-Stocked For Stateline

Paul Delaney Correspondent

Drag racing may have the attention of many people this weekend as John Force and company visit the AHRA World Finals this weekend.

But stock car fans won’t miss their favorite pastime, as the Interstate Superstock Series visits Stateline Speedway Saturday night.

Time trials begin at 6. The program also includes the Interstate Mini-Trucks and Hobby Cars.

Ephrata’s Kevin Burck has regained the points lead from Mike Sauls for the first time since the season’s initial race. Burck holds a 399-391 lead over the Puyallup driver.

A pair of local drivers, Brad Allard (324) of Sandpoint and Spokane’s Dave Garber (259) round out the top five in series points.

Stateline also runs at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Groskreutz, Schultz climb in tour

Spokane drivers Marc Groskreutz and Rick Schultz will try to improve their positioning in NASCAR Northwest Tour point standings when the late-model series visits Wenatchee Valley Raceway Saturday night for the Televar 125.

Groskreutz, the tour’s top rookie, solidified his hold on third place by finishing seventh in his Flying J/Fabtech Chevy at the Western 250, two weeks ago at Monroe.

Schultz was the top local finisher in the season’s longest race, ending up fifth and winning $3,125 in his River City Body Monte Carlo.

Kelly Tanner of Woodinville, Wash., strengthened his lead in the standings with a third place at Evergreen. He leads Garrett Evans by 133 points with three races to go.

Hydro will bypass Kelowna

Spokane’s Appian Jeronimo hydroplane will pass on running in Sunday’s inaugural Molson Canada Cup in Kelowna, British Columbia.

After having its boat destroyed in a blowover accident in the Columbia Cup two weeks ago, Team Spokane used a boat leased from Seattle’s Fred Leland in last week’s Seafair.

The boat finished third in one heat and was then forced to withdraw from racing.

Driver and team manager Tom Hindley continues to mend from a variety of injuries - among the more serious, a broken arm and broken ribs - at home in Spokane.
