Didion Homers Twice In An Inning As Indians Rip Timberjacks

One day after being shut out by the Yakima Bears, the Spokane Indians exploded for 12 runs in the second inning, thanks to a pair of three-run homers by third baseman Kris Didion, en route to a 16-8 victory over the Southern Oregon Timberjacks.

The 16-run outburst was a season high for the Indians and enabled them to snap a three-game losing streak.

Spokane sent 15 batters to the plate in the pivotal second inning against Timberjacks starter Luis Silva (0-2) and reliever Brad Blumenstock. Every Spokane batter had at least one hit in the inning except Carlos Beltran, who reached base via a walk.

Didion’s heroics entertained several family members who had traveled to the game from his hometown of Klamath Falls.

Pitcher Steve Hueston benefited from the Indians onslaught. Hueston went five innings, giving up two earned runs, while posting his third win against one loss.

The Indians pounded out a season-high 17 hits. Kenderick Moore turned in a 4-for-4 performance. Kit Pellow and Brandon Berger each ripped his 12th homer. Pellow finished with three hits and scored three times. Berger contributed a two-run homer to the second-inning outburst.

Jeremy Giambi and Carlos Beltran each collected a pair of hits.

Southern Oregon got on the board against Hueston in the fifth inning, when Troy Rauer and Tim Jones led off with back-toback home runs.

The Timberjacks touched up four Spokane relievers for nine hits and six runs in the final four innings, although only three of the runs were earned.

Spokane, which improved to 23-30 for the season, takes on Southern Oregon again tonight at 7:05 in the second game of the four-game series.

The Timberjacks fall to 20-33 on the year.
