Assumption Parish Wins Softball Championship

Assumption Catholic Parish defeated regular season champion Life Center for the championship of the North Side Athletic League Jack and Jill softball tournament.

It marked the conclusion of the 15th season for a league which promotes fellowship and unity among churches of various denominations.

Assumption finished with an 11-3 season record. Life Center was last year’s tournament champion.

Finishing third in the tournament was Shadle Park Presbyterian.

Others in order of finish were North Spokane Community Church, St. Aloysius Catholic, St. Thomas More Catholic, Calvary 1, Prince of Peace Lutheran, St. Francis Assisi Catholic, Calvary 2, St. Francis Xavier Catholic and Zion Lutheran.

Both Calvary teams shared the Sportsmanship Award as voted on by league coaches.

Guest pastor at Trinity Baptist

Trinity Baptist Church, 6528 N. Monroe, will have Bill Ware as a guest pastor at the 10 a.m. service Sunday.

Ware is a Spokane native who is now the chairman of the Systematic Theology Department at Trinity Seminary in Deerfield, Ill.

He is a 1975 Whitworth College graduate who attended the Western Baptist Seminary in Portland and received his doctorate from Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, Calif. He has been in his current position for five years and teaches systematic theology along with his duties as chairman.

Bible school next week

Fowler United Methodist Church, 3928 N. Howard, will be holding its summer Bible School next week. There are classes for all ages, including adults. All classes are held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The adult students will be studying how the will of God affects our lives. Children, grades K-12, will learn about different parts of the world. The classes are free and open to anyone who wishes to attend. For more information, call 325-3242.
