Crews To Be Sent Home From West Plains Fire
About 150 firefighters are expected to be sent home today from the West Plains wildfire that started Sunday.
The Washington Department of Natural Resources brought the wildfire under control late Thursday.
The fire charred 3,020 acres stretching from Christensen and Bowie roads up to Riverside State Park. It destroyed eight homes and damaged one.
Almost 600 firefighters from across the state have battled the blaze. Estimates indicate the firefighting bill will run close to $1 million.
Investigators still haven’t announced a cause to the blaze. The investigation is focusing on a burn barrel behind a home on Christensen Road.
