Driver Shot By Man Who Offers To Jump-Start Car, Then Steals It

Compiled From Wire Services

A Kent man was shot by a man who offered to jump-start his car and then stole it, authorities said.

Mack Gad, 26, was in critical condition Thursday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with gunshot wounds to the head and to the left shoulder, hospital spokesman Larry Zalin said.

The victim’s vehicle had a dead battery when he stopped at a gas station in Federal Way on Wednesday night, King County police said.

Another car pulled up behind the victim’s car, and a man offered to give the disabled vehicle a jump start.

The victim accepted the offer of assistance and went inside the store.

The other man got the car started, climbed in and ordered the three passengers to get out, police said.

The victim ran out to his car and tried to jump through the rolled-down passenger-side window. He was shot once in the head and twice in the shoulders, police said.

The thief drove away in the car, which was later found a few blocks away.
