One Killed, One Hurt In Small-Plane Crash

From Staff And Wire Reports

A twin-engine plane with two people aboard crashed Friday evening on a grassy lawn near a Seattle-Tacoma International Airport parking garage. One person died; one was critically injured.

The Beech Twin Bonanza burst into flames when it crashed about 7 p.m. but fire emergency crews quickly extinguished the fire with foam. No one on the ground was injured.

One occupant was dead at the scene, Federal Aviation Administration duty officer Lee Fryer said. A second person was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center. A nursing supervisor said that man, who was not immediately identified, was in critical condition.

The plane was headed for Boeing Field, a few miles north of Sea-Tac, said Woody Cummings, an FAA duty officer with the regional operations center. As the plane began its final approach, the pilot indicated he was having engine trouble and was going to try to land at Sea-Tac, she said.

Cummings said she did not know where the flight originated or the names of those aboard.
