Severed Fingertip Points Out Mugging Suspect

Compiled From Wire Services

A suspected mugger whose fingertip was bitten off by a man he allegedly tried to rob was identified by a print taken from the disconnected digit and arrested.

The 29-year-old suspect was picked up after Amsterdam police managed to take a print from the bitten-off tip of his left ring finger and matched it with a set already on file, police said in a statement Wednesday.

The arrested man, whose name was not released in line with Dutch privacy laws, refused to answer police questions but referred to the man who bit off his finger last Friday as “the cannibal,” police said.
