Sizzling San Diego Beats Montreal, 6-0

Scott Sanders pitched one-hit ball over eight innings as San Diego won its sixth straight, 6-0 at Montreal on Friday night.

Wally Joyner drove in two runs in San Diego’s four-run third inning as the Padres moved a season-high 16 games over .500 - their best mark since the end of the 1989 season.

Sanders (8-4), who threw eight innings of three-hit ball against the Expos on Aug. 19, won his fourth consecutive decision. He struck out 10 and walked three.

Astros 10, Pirates 0 Pittsburgh

Sean Berry matched a career high with six RBIs and Jeff Bagwell went 4 for 5 to back Donne Wall’s first major-league shutout as Houston beat Pittsburgh.

Wall (9-4), who scattered seven hits, has started four of the Astros’ seven victories over Pittsburgh this season.

Marlins 3, Reds 1 Cincinnati

Florida extended its winning streak to seven games as Kevin Brown pitched a complete game and Luis Castillo homered in a victory over Cincinnati.

Giants 6, Mets 4 New York

Rookie Shawn Estes came within one out of his first career complete game, and Marvin Benard went 3 for 4 with a homer as San Francisco kept New York winless under new manager Bobby Valentine.

Estes (3-4) gave up two hits in the second inning, but held the Mets to one hit over 7-1/3 innings before giving up a two-out single in the ninth. He was lifted by manager Dusty Baker, who brought in Rod Beck to get the final out.

Cardinals 7, Rockies 4 St. Louis

Alan Benes became the first St. Louis rookie to win 12 games since 1971, Tom Pagnozzi drove in three runs and Ray Lankford matched his career high with four hits to lead the Cardinals over Colorado.

Benes is the first St. Louis rookie to win a dozen games since Reggie Cleveland won 12 in 1971.

Dodgers 7, Phils 6 (12) Philadelphia

Delino DeShields hit a tie-breaking RBI triple in the 12th inning, helping Los Angeles beat Philadelphia.

Chad Curtis led off the inning with a walk off losing pitcher Jeff Parrot (2-3) and scored when DeShields lined his hit to right-center.

Cubs 3-5, Braves 2-6 Chicago

Marquis Grissom’s sacrifice fly capped a two-run ninth inning as Atlanta rallied to beat Chicago salvaging a doubleheader split.

The Cubs won the first game with Kevin Foster pitching three-hit ball over eight innings and driving in two runs.

Chicago’s Scott Servais has been hit by 13 pitches, the highest total by a catcher in N.L. history…. St. Louis’ Danny Jackson will make his first start since last Aug. 11 on Sunday. The left-hander had been sidelined with a broken ankle…. Los Angeles’ Greg Gagne is 6 for 8 with the bases loaded this season, and 4 for 5 with the bases loaded and two outs.
