The Exact Truth: Fox Will Grow Old As Mulder

Compiled By Staff Writer Dan Web

The truth may be out there, but David Duchovny is right here to talk about his alleged threats to quit “The X-Files.” “Why does everybody think that I’m this ungrateful person who is trying to leave the show?” Duchovny asked TV Guide, which put him on the magazine’s cover.

“I have a loyalty to Chris Carter and the show,” Duchovny said. “That’s why I’ve been here for four years… So when I talk about this ‘damn show,’ it’s like when you hear guys talk about their wives. They complain about them… but they’re not going to leave. They just need to complain.”

So when will he leave? Never forever. “I’d love to come back and do Mulder,” he says. “In a girdle, or whatever he needs as he gets older.”

Loose talk

Felon/ex-televangelist Jim Bakker on enduring his first strip search in prison: “I remember saying to myself ‘Merry Christmas’ in a very sarcastic way.”

His cousin, Bob Colfax, sends his regards

Bill Pullman turns 43 today.

‘Grease’ producers oil the wheels of their profit machine

Those shameless producers of the Broadway musical “Grease” will do anything to keep their show in the news. They’ve cast Olympic gold-medal gymnast Dominique Dawes. Dawes, 20, portrays Patty Simcox, the backflipping cheerleader.

God grant us relief from such Divine stories

Despite her protests, Estella Marie Thompson was convicted last week of resisting Las Vegas police and loitering for the purpose of prostitution and fined a total of $950. You may know Thompson better by her street name of Divine Brown, formerly of Hugh Grant fame.

There’s nothing like a good ol’ video game, boy

In his new film “Jerry Maguire,” Tom Cruise plays a sports agent who, at least initially, is a thoughtless “shark in a suit.” But according to 10-year-old bit player Drake Bell, the truth is a different story. “He took me into his big, big trailer, and we played video games for, like, two hours,” Bell told The Orange County Register. “It was so rad.”

And no one’s going to argue with real-life ‘Rambo’

Seems as if movie stars like to play real-life hero. Tom Cruise did it recently, and Sylvester Stallone followed suit on Friday in Paris. Attending the opening of the Paris branch of the Planet Hollywood restaurant, Stallone spotted a 40-something woman who had been knocked down in a crowd. He waded through the mob to help her up.

Pity the poor fools who caught ‘Tango and Cash’

Speaking of 24-screen megaplexes, Phoenix just opened one, and the opening-night treat was a Kurt Russell film festival. Every screen featured a Russell film, from “Escape From New York” to “The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes,” and Russell was on hand to introduce them all. “I haven’t seen some of these movies for 25 years,” he said.
