Recycling Is Slave To Style At Littlearth

Shanna Southern Peterson Correspondent

What is the hottest new product line to hit the market?

What accessories will everyone want this spring?

Anything from Littlearth.

Based in Pittsburgh, this innovative young company has taken recycling into the realm of fashion and done so with a flourish.

From New York to Los Angeles, from Tulsa to Great Falls, the demand is going to be tremendous for this unique line of accessories.

Currently, their best-selling item is a belt. This isn’t just any belt. It’s made from recycled rubber inner tubes with a chrome seat belt buckle closure and studded with colorful bottle caps. You have your choice of recycled beer bottle caps or vintage soda caps. Prices start at $39.

Another top seller is the handbag. Crafted from recycled American and European license plates and hubcaps, this purse has a truly unique look.

Our favorite handbag is the original design called the Cyclone, selling for about $59. It features an American license plate rolled into a tube with hubcaps on the ends. The strap is made of rubber from a recycled inner tube.

For a dressier version, the Silver Cyclone has the license plate reversed showing the polished backside. This model, available at Nordstrom, comes with a silver chain instead of inner tube strap and will make a great prom purse.

Looking for a gift for the young lady who has everything? Check out the handlebar hair brush which should be available in early 1997. It is made from reclaimed steel tubing complete with a glittery rubber bicycle handle and plastic streamers, just like you had on your bike when you were a kid.

Planning a trip down Route 66 or just daydreaming, “The Road Journal” is perfect for writing down your thoughts no matter where you are headed.

This little treasure is also made of a recycled license plate and filled with recycled paper.

But just how committed to recycling is this company?

In a word - TOTALLY! Last year alone they recycled 73,000 old license plates, 120,000 pounds of discarded aluminum street signs, 160,000 pounds of truck inner tube rubber, and 2 million bottle caps.

Littlearth is a company that proves you can be on the cutting edge of style and care for the environment at the same time.
