Patrick McEnroe and Patrick Galbraith fought back from a 4-1 deficit in a first-set tiebreaker, then went on to win their doubles match in straight sets to clinch a U.S. victory over Mexico in the first round of the Davis Cup.

McEnroe and Galbraith downed Oscar Ortiz and Leonardo Lavalle 7-6 (9-7), 6-4, 6-3 to give the United States a 3-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Michael Chang and Todd Martin each won their singles matches Friday.

Although the U.S. has already won the round, two more singles matches, Chang against Alejandro Hernandez and Martin against Lavalle, are scheduled today.

Next up for the United States, the defending Cup champion, is an April 5-7 meeting with the Czech Republic, expected to be played in Prague. The Czech Republic assured itself a second-round berth by taking a 3-0 edge over Hungary.
