Jay Jacobs To Close Its Downtown Store
Jay Jacobs will close its downtown Spokane clothing store when its lease expires at the end of the month.
The River Park Square store has been in business for 10 years. Seattle-based Jay Jacobs emerged from bankruptcy in November, after filing in May 1994. The company has been re-evaluating each store’s lease as it comes due, said Doris Williams, executive vice president.
Stores that are not profitable, such as the one in River Park Square, are closed, she said. “We’re still in the process of turning the company around.”
The company still has 139 stores nationwide, including one at NorthTown Mall and one at University City Shopping Center. Twenty-five to 30 new stores will open in 1996, Williams said.
Under its reorganization plan, the the company is changing direction and appealing to a “more mature” customer,” Williams said. “Our reputation has been as a teeny-bopper store. We’re not specifically targeting the young teenage customer anymore.” , DataTimes
