Bomb Victim Passes Polygraph Man’s Car Was Destroyed In Pipe Bomb Explosion Last Month

A Spokane man whose car blew up last month has passed a lie-detector test.

William “Willie” Mitchell voluntarily took the polygraph test given him last week by a specialist with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms.

ATF agents are investigating the car bombing because of violations of federal explosives laws.

“I passed with flying colors,” Mitchell, a 25-year-old former Tacoma resident, said Tuesday. ATF officials in Spokane confirmed that Mitchell passed the test.

In such tests, the person being tested is asked whether he or she was involved or knows who was involved in the crime.

A potentially deadly pipe bomb exploded before dawn on Jan. 21 inside Mitchell’s 1985 Dodge Colt, parked outside his apartment on North Stone. No one was injured, but the car was destroyed.

Mitchell told investigators and reporters that he doesn’t have a clue who might be responsible. Married and unemployed, he still owes $433 on the car, which wasn’t insured.

“Currently, we’re without any leads in this investigation,” said ATF resident agent Bob Harper. “If there’s anything the public can give us regarding a motive or leads on suspects, we’d appreciate it.”
