The Hot Seat A Weekly Look At People In The News
Sign on the White House door: Gone Fishin’
Lately, Bill Clinton has been fishing for Republican Revolutionaries and it’s not fair sport. They take the bait too easily. Listen as Clinton baits the hook: “I bet if we make Newt sit in the back of the plane he’ll get mad and make a fool of himself.” WHAMBO, FISH ON!
Watch, as Clinton dangles a juicy worm in front of the House Freshmen: “Let’s see if we can get the Revolutionaries to shut the government down. They’ll get mad, look bad on TV and alienate a half million government workers (voters).” BINGO, FISH ON!
But, after 20 days the crafty conservatives realized they’d been left holding a real stinkeroo. Using their brains, they hatched a plan that pays federal workers but doesn’t fund many agencies. This means some federal workers will be paid for showing up but not doing anything. Bill Clinton is no sportsman.
WSU basketball coach does the honorable thing
The Cougs lost a heartbreaker to UCLA this week and even though he didn’t play a single minute, WSU basketball coach Kevin Eastman took all the blame. We get suspicious when people willingly fall on their swords. So we investigated. We asked a couple of sports guys who were sitting around with nothing to do and they disagreed about Eastman’s motives. The big, opinionated guy, who is never right about anything, boomed that Eastman was talking about expectations; that if his players are in a position to win, then they should win. He called it a refreshing change. The cynical sports guy, who makes his living watching games on TV and writing about them as if he was really there, said Eastman was playing for sympathy, waiting for someone to say, “Now, now, Kev, it really wasn’t your fault.” We think Eastman is just one of those honest blubberers who blurt out the truth without thinking.
