Gary Gainer Elected Education Board President
Gary Gainer, a Spokane attorney, has been elected president of the Washington State Board of Education. Gainer, a board member since 1992, represents the 5th Congressional District.
The 11-member board oversees teacher preparation and certification, school construction, high school graduation requirements and school accreditation.
John Guastella, son of Frank and Pamala Guastella of Spokane, was presented a bronze pin at Shattuck-St. Mary’s School in Faribault, Minn., for achieving the “B” honor roll for winter term. Guastella, a senior, plays defense on the school’s prep hockey team.
Alicia McIntire of Cheney has been awarded a $2,000 Trustees’ Scholarship at Eastern Washington University. Trustees scholars are continuing junior and senior students selected for academic credentials and extracurricular activities.
McIntire, an EWU senior, is an urban and regional planning major. A 1992 graduate of Cheney High School, she is the daughter of Gabrielle and Allan McIntire.
She is a member of Associated Student Planners, American Planning Association, Phi Kappa Phi honor society and Phi Eta Sigma honor society.
