Group Protests Greyhound Racing
Greyhound Action Committee members held a brief protest at Coeur d’Alene Greyhound Park in Post Falls on Saturday.
“We want to stop the simulcasting of greyhound racing in the state of Idaho by a repeal of the laws allowing greyhound racing in the state,” said Larry Moser, a committee member.
The group held protests at Post Falls and at Les Bois Park in Boise because it wants to show there is statewide opposition to greyhound racing. The management of Les Bois Park leased the North Idaho dog racing facility on Jan. 1.
Coeur d’Alene Greyhound Park was to cease operations before the Les Bois group stepped in and announced it would continue simulcasting dog and horse races. The Greyhound Action Committee, which believes dog racing is cruel, fears that leaves the door open for renewed racing of live dogs.
However, park manager Don Gross, said there’s no way live dog racing will return, beyond the two days of racing required each year by state law in order for the park to keep its simulcasting license.
