Jordan Shines Over Stackhouse

From Wire Reports

NBA

Michael Jordan showed up rookie Jerry Stackhouse by scoring a season-high 48 points as the Chicago Bulls toyed with Philadelphia before pulling away at Philadelphia.

Jordan, eager to show the fellow North Carolina product there’s still a lot left in his 32-year-old body, tied his old season-best of 45 points when he hit a jumper in the lane with 2:20 left in the third quarter.

Stackhouse attempted to defend Jordan for most of the night and had no real success, getting duped by pump fakes or leaving Jordan with plenty of room to shoot.

Stackhouse was continually frustrated by Jordan’s defense and scored only 13 points on 4-of-11 shooting.

Malone contract extended

Karl Malone signed a two-year contract extension with the Jazz Saturday morning. Sources say it is worth $18-20 million.

The 32-year-old Malone, already under contract through 1997-98, will be nearly 37 when the rich extension expires after the 1999-2000 season.

Malone, 32, is in his 11th season with the Jazz.
