Titans Wrap Up Fourth Straight Gymnastics Title

The flu bug had no more luck beating University than Greater Spokane League gymnastics teams have had.

The Titans (21-0) wrapped up their second consecutive perfect league season Thursday during a four-way meet at home. U-Hi, the league champion for four straight years, competed without three flu-stricken varsity gymnasts, including typical No. 2 all-around Kalie Cossette.

Senior Kim Meyers won the all-around with 35.7 points, including wins in the vault (8.5), balance beam (9.0) and floor exercise (9.1). Meyers is unbeaten in the all-around for two seasons.

Amber Hulbert had a personal-best 9.4 on the uneven bars. Coleen Pierce (34.65) was second in the all-around and the Titans swept the top three in each event.

Shelly Betts, fourth in the all-around at 31.3, led North Central (9-12) over Rogers (6-15) and Lewis and Clark (1-20).

At Central Valley, Liz Miller won the all-around with a 35.55 to guide second-place Ferris (18-3) to its highest team score of the year (166.15) during a four-way sweep.

Miller won the floor (9.15) and the bars (8.9).

Although Kelly Herron of Mead was second in the all-around at 33.85, the host Bears (14-7) scored a season-high 161.70 to edge Mead (13-8) and capture third place in league. Lindsay Linerud’s third-place 33.55 in the all-around and a team-record 43.1 on the floor guided CV.

Shadle Park finished 2-19.
