Official Downplays Dip In Attendance

Associated Press

Wimbledon chief executive Christopher Gorringe says not to worry about this year’s dip in attendance, which has fallen 4.5 percent from last year after nine days.

Wimbledon has been plagued this year by abysmal weather - cold and wet. It’s also been the victim of two 24-hour subway strikes and soccer fever that gripped the nation during the first week as England hosted the European Championships.

“The fact that attendances are only 4.5 percent down on near-record levels of last year is heartening,” Gorringe said.
