Tribe Sweeps Hawks, Returns Home Tonight

In a Northwest League baseball game that resembled “can you top this?” the Spokane Indians one-upped the Boise Hawks once again.

Home runs by Doug Blosser and Brandon Berger and a three-run double by Kris Didion sparked the Tribe to a 9-7 triumph Monday to complete a four-game sweep of the South Division leaders.

The Indians (11-16) head home for a three-game series against the team directly ahead of them in the North, Bellingham, beginning at 7:05 tonight at Seafirst Stadium.

After yielding a first-inning run on a Matt Curtis double - the first of five RBIs for the Hawks catcher in the game - the Indians methodically carved out a 9-1 lead.

Blosser clubbed his second homer, off Brewster’s Jerrod Riggan, for 2-1 lead in the second.

Berger’s seventh homer - and third in two nights - was good for two and a 4-1 lead in the third.

Spokane sent eight men to the plate in the fourth, with Didion ending a 1-for-15 slump in the series with a base-clearing double for 8-1.

Juan Robles’ sacrifice fly in the fifth capped the Spokane scoring.

Then the Indians hung on.

Curtis popped a three-run homer in the fifth and had a sacrifice fly in a three-run seventh. It was 9-7.

But Modesto Villarreal, in his first appearance since he blew a lead Thursday, put the cuffs on the Hawks for his first save.

Spokane amassed 39 runs on 48 hits in the sweep - without taking batting practice.
