Marjorie Robbins Spokane

Service for Marjorie Ouita (Patterson) Crawford Robbins, 92, will be Monday in Longmont, Colo.

Mrs. Robbins who died Friday, was born in Longmont.

She married Clair Crawford in the 1920s in Denver. He died in 1963.

Mrs. Robbins was a homemaker and helped her husband operate an appliance store.

She married Ted Robbins in 1967. He died in 1970.

In 1980, she moved from Colorado to Spokane and also spent four years living near Worley, Idaho.

She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Royal Neighbors.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ellen Dickson of Spokane; a stepson, Don Robbins; two granddaughters, three stepgrandchildren, two great-granddaughters and numerous stepgreat-grandchildren.

Edwin Rice Spokane

Visitation for Edwin B. Rice, 84, is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeSouth. Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Spring Canyon Cemetery in Grand Coulee.

Mr. Rice died Monday. He was born in Rice, Wash., which his grandparents, William and Alice, founded.

He graduated from high school in Kettle Falls, Wash., and operated a cattle and wheat farm in the Delrio area of Douglas County.

He moved to Electric City in 1968 and served as mayor at one time. He moved to Spokane in 1988.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lois Rice; and three sisters, Pearl Ball, Helen Schudel and Vivien Fell, all of Spokane.

Kathleen Poire Spokane

Vigil service for Kathleen J. Poire, 67, will be at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is set for 8 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Mrs. Poire died Monday.

She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Parish and worked as a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Her husband of 42 years, Joseph Poire, died in June .

She is survived by two sons, Joseph Poire of Garfield, Wash., and John Poire of Missoula; and a granddaughter.

Robert ‘Mike’ Waite Spokane

Memorial service for Robert “Mike” Waite, 53, is set for 11 a.m. today at Fourth Memorial Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Waite, who died Sunday, was born in Garnett, Kan.

He enlisted in the Air Force when he was 22 and served in Europe and Vietnam. He arrived at Fairchild Air Force Base in 1972 and remained in Spokane after he was discharged.

He worked for Diebold Inc. for 21 years.

He is survived by a son, Robert “Bill” Waite of Spokane; a daughter, Jaime Waite of Spokane; his father Robert Waite of Parachute, Colo.; and a sister, Martha Shacklette, and a brother, John Waite, both of Littleton, Colo.

Brice Busby Kent, Wash.

Memorial gathering for Brice Ford Busby, 22, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Cheney Church of the Nazarene. Mount Olivet Crematory in Renton, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Busby died Friday in an accidental fall from a train trestle platform.

He was born in Seattle and lived in Cheney from 1982 until 1991 and attended Marshall Christian School, Northwest Christian School and Cheney High School. He graduated from high school in Kent.

He worked at Davidson Plastics in Western Washington.

He is survived by his wife, Maria “Sunshine” Busby of Kent; his father and stepmother, Clarence “Buzz” and Deborah Busby of Spokane; his mother and stepfather, Willa and Michael Link of Renton; three brothers, Brian Busby of Kent, and Mark and Adam Busby, both of Spokane; a stepbrother, Michael Link of Kent; and his grandmother Frances Busby of the Spokane Valley.

Joan Waananen Pullman

Graveside service for Joan Waananen, 66, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Pullman City Cemetery. Memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pullman. Kimball Funeral Home in Pullman is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Waananen, who died Monday at home from cancer, was born in Iron Mountain, Mich.

She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Northern Michigan University and a master’s degree in special education from the University of Illinois.

In 1951 she married Martin Waananen.

She taught in Michigan, Illinois, Arizona and in Pullman from 1954 to 1985. She was also a reading specialist.

From 1985 to 1987 she taught elementary grades for international students in Pakistan and taught English to faculty members at the Northwest Frontier Province Agricultural University there.

She later taught English to foreign students in Pullman through Spokane Community College.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church; PEO, a philanthropic educational organization; and Gamma Phi Beta Alumni. She also was a volunteer for Pullman Memorial Hospital.

She is survived by her husband; a daughter, Wendy Elwood of Eugene, Ore.; a son, Kurt Waananen of Minneapolis; a brother, John Thune of Fairfax, Va.; and five grandchildren.

Kenneth Kohles Woodinville, Wash.

Memorial service for Kenneth Robert Kohles, 78, was held in Bellevue, Wash. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace at a later date. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mr. Kohles, a former Sacheen Lake, Wash., resident, died Saturday in Woodinville. He was born in Sunburst, Mont.

He and his wife, Neita, built the Sacheen Lake Resort. After retirement, Mr. Kohles was involved in real estate development and construction in the Spokane area.

They moved to Western Washington in 1987. He was a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years; a daughter, Darleen Soliday of Woodinville; two sisters, Kathleen Donaldson and Evelyn King, both of Spokane; two grandsons and one great-grandson.

Noel Eder Seattle

Memorial service for Noel Eder, , a former Spokane resident, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. July 28 at the Manito Park duck pond. Morris and Morris Funeral Home of Sacramento, Calif., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Eder died June 28, in Sacramento. He was afflicted with cystic fibrosis and received a double-lung transplant last year in Seattle.

In February he was diagnosed with a major, irreversible rejection of the transplant.

He moved to California, where he was participating in a pulmonary rehabilitation program at the University of California-Davis in Sacramento to rebuild his health for a retransplant.

He was a 19-year Spokane resident and attended Lewis and Clark High School. He graduated from Newport (Wash.) High School.

He was active statewide in fund-raising events for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and formed the CF Club. He was an active opponent of grass burning. He ran Bloomsday five years in a row.

He is survived by his mother, Lynda Donoian of Seattle; his father and stepmother, Matt and Melody Eder of Seattle; a sister, Cherese McCoy of Spokane; a stepsister, Jamie Whitaker of Seattle; his grandparents, Maxine and Dan Donoian of Spokane; and close friend Courtney Howell of Seattle.

Donna ‘DJ’ Nieves Federal Way, Wash.

Memorial service for Donna Jane “DJ” Nieves, 61, a former Spokane resident, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bonney-Watson Funeral Home in Federal Way.

Mrs. Nieves, who died July 10, was born in Bremerton.

She worked as a paralegal in Spokane, Portland and Seattle. She had lived in Federal Way for 16 years.

She is survived by her husband, Paul Nieves; two sons, Daniel Kettrick of Olympia and David Kettrick of Spokane; a daughter, Kari Beatty of Tacoma; a brother, Ronald Jones of Seattle; and two grandsons.
