Hints From Heloise

King Features Syndicate

Dear Heloise: I would like to share a tip that cost me $35.

A while back, my clothes dryer was taking a very long time to dry clothes, so I called a repairman. All he did to correct the problem was remove the lint filter and clean it in the sink with a brush and some dish detergent.

He told me that when you use fabric-softener sheets, film builds up on the lint filter and won’t allow the air to circulate properly.

When I asked him if I should stop using the sheets, he said no but just be sure to clean the filter regularly the way he did.

Thinking back, I’m sure that’s the reason the heating coils in my old dryer burned out so quickly. - John Golden, Farmington, N.M.
