Man Fraudulently Posing As Officer

From Staff And Wire Reports

A man posing as a state police officer is calling residents to request money as part of a nationwide driver’s license scam, the Washington State Patrol said.

The caller tells victims about a phony accident and says their driver’s license has been seized by troopers. He then asks the victim to wire money to him to get the license back, troopers said.

Neither the WSP nor other law enforcement agencies around the state have such a policy, troopers said.

Businesses executives and employees are typically targeted. Troopers believe the calls originate out of state.

The caller has requested as much as $1,500.

Troopers recommend recipients of suspicious calls ask for a call-back number with an area code, the name of the caller and badge number. The information is something troopers routinely provide, the state patrol said. , DataTimes
