Idaho’s Liske Will Talk With Toledo Officials
Idaho athletic director Pete Liske is in Ohio today for his second interview for a similar position at the University of Toledo.
Numerous sources in Moscow close to the situation say that Liske has emerged as the leading candidate.
However, Toledo officials declined comment, other than confirming that four candidates will be interviewed by UT president Frank Horton.
Liske is joined by finalists Mike Bobinski, Akron A.D.; Vivian Fuller, Northeastern Illinois A.D.; and Mike McNeely, an NCAA administrator and brother of Idaho State football coach Brian McNeely.
Liske was one of four finalists when a lawsuit suspended Toledo’s search two months ago. It recently reopened and Toledo’s board of trustees on Wednesday voted to allow Horton to conduct the remaining work.
Mike Alden, one of the four original finalists, accepted the A.D. position at Southwest Texas State and is no longer under consideration.
Horton personally invited Liske to apply several months ago. Horton is expected to move swiftly because he’s leaving on a trip overseas in about 10 days.
“The president called (Wednesday night) and he wants to visit and would like to visit quickly, so I will,” said Liske, who has been a candidate for several jobs in recent years, including Penn State, Temple and Virginia.
