Restored Bombers Dive Into Spokane Airport

In a couple of days, chances are someone around here is going to look up in the sky, then turn to a friend and say “You won’t believe what I just saw.”

After all, people don’t catch a glimpse of a B-17 and B-24 every day. But two restored World War II bombers have their sights set on Spokane. And the historic war birds will be on display and ready for inspection at the Spokane Airways Flight Center at Spokane International Airport starting Thursday afternoon. The hours:

Thursday, 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Admission is $7 for adults, $3 for children under 12. Call 747-2017 for additional details.

The nostalgia-laden vintage planes, which were here last year, are owned and operated by the Collings Foundation of Massachusetts.

Though mass produced in the war years, only a tiny number of B-17s and B-24s remain.

To find out about going on a flight in one of the four-engine blasts from the past, call Scott Sanderson at (509) 448-4709.
