Local Students Receive State Grange Scholarships
The Washington State Grange Foundation Fund Scholarship Committee has awarded scholarships to 55 students statewide. The following Inland Northwest students received financial assistance for college:
Patrick Joy Kane and Jennifer Camp each received four-year $750 Martin and Grace Forry scholarships. Kane, a student at Spokane Community College, is a 1994 graduate of Tekoa (Wash.) High School. He is the son of Patrick and Jennie Kane. Camp has completed her second year at Walla Walla Community College and will attend Washington State University in the fall, majoring in agriculture. She is the daughter of Alan and Janet Camp, and Diana DeMarce.
Jerry Lee Kane, son of Patrick and Jennie Kane, received a one-year $500 Kiona-Benton Scholarship. Kane graduated from Tekoa High School in 1995 and attends SCC. An active Future Farmers of America member, he earned the FFA Farmer Degree.
Brett Bly, Davenport, Wash., received a one-year $500 Horace Bozarth Scholarship. He was class salutatorian at Harrington (Wash.) High School, student body president and was on the football, basketball and track teams in his junior year. He is the son of Brian Toney and Susan Bly.
Melanie Hayes, a graduating senior at St. John-Endicott (Wash.) High School, is an honor student and a cheerleader. She is the daughter of Jack and Linda Hays.
Jeanne Peringer, a graduate of Oakesdale (Wash.) High School, is a member of the National Honor Society and Power of One (Future Homemakers of America) and was student body president. She is the daughter of Paul and Gretchen Peringer.
Students who received $500 Delpha Goude scholarships are: Bryan Brash, a graduate of Liberty High School. He is an honor roll student and a member of FFA. He is the son of Ricky and Dawn Brash.
April Humphrey, a senior at Washington State University. She was on the President’s Honor Roll and received a Dean’s Merit Scholarship.
Sean Crooks, a graduating senior at Oakesdale High School. He will attend WSU in the fall. In high school, he participated in band, basketball and track and was class president and vice president. He is the son of Thomas and Linda Crooks.
Trisha Wellsandt, a Ritzville (Wash.) High School graduate. She is a freshman at WSU, where she is on the President’s Honor Roll. The daughter of Dennis and Shary Wellsandt, she was a member of the Honor Society, Academic Letter Club, Knowledge Bowl, and varsity and golf clubs.
Melanie Lund, an Eastern Washington University junior. She was on the Dean’s List. She is the daughter of Martin and Charlene Lund.
Jared Templin, a graduating senior at Ritzville High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society and senior class vice president and is involved in Future Farmers of America. He is the son of Garrett and Carol Templin.
Jennifer Dougherty, an EWU junior. In high school, she was a member of the Honor Society, FBLA and the Letterman’s Club. A 1995 graduate of Reardan High School, she is the daughter of Jerry and Linda Dougherty.
Renee Dougherty, also the daughter of Jerry and Linda Dougherty. She is a junior at EWU and a graduate of Reardan High School where she was on the Honor Roll and active in FBLA.
