Darwin Marcus Spokane

Memorial service for Darwin P. Marcus, 63, will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Private graveside service will precede at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Marcus, who died Sunday, was born in St. John, Wash.

He moved to Spokane as an child and graduated from Central Valley High School.

He served in the Air National Guard during the Korean War as a company photographer and married Caryl VanDorn in 1954.

Mr. Marcus worked as an office manager in the fluid power industry.

He designed and built the family home on Silver Lake, Wash.

He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and served on its board of deacons and the Eastern Washington Bible Camp board of directors.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Daryl Marcus of Medical Lake; a daughter, Karen Hyde of Spokane; a sister, Nearine Baugh of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Dorothy Falk Deer Park

Service for Dorothy I. Falk, 89, will be at 11:30 a.m. today at Faith Lutheran Church in Deer Park. Burial will be at Wildrose Prairie Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Falk, a longtime Williams Valley and Deer Park resident, died Sunday.

She was born in Sandpoint and graduated from Deer Park High School.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church and the Williams Valley Grange.

Her husband, Fred Falk, died in 1976.

She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Heddy Ziefle Spokane

Memorial service for Heddy Ziefle, 84, will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Private inurnment will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Miss Ziefle, who died June 14, was born in Germany.

She was a 15-year Spokane area resident and worked as a nurse’s assistant at Sacred Heart Medical Center and Deaconess Medical Center.

She is survived by numerous cousins.

Vera Christensen Spokane

Memorial service for Vera M. Christensen, 84, is planned for 2 p.m. todayat Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. There will be private inurnment.

Mrs. Christensen, who died Sunday, was born on the family homestead in Westby, Mont.

She married Chris Christensen and they ran a farm in Reserve, Mont., for 45 years.

They retired and moved to Huntington Beach, Calif. Mr. Christensen died in 1982 and Mrs. Christensen moved to Spokane in 1983.

She is survived by one son, Gene Christensen of Anaheim, Calif.; two daughters, Ruth Ann Burley of Bow, Wash., and Patricia Werle of Spokane; a sister, Helen Rohweder of Idaho Falls; a brother, Clifford Jensen of Bothell, Wash.; numerous grandchildren several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Doris Lake Spokane

Private service will be held for Doris J. Lake, 72. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lake, who died Sunday, was born in Fairfield, Idaho.

She was a 60-year Spokane resident and was a homemaker.

She was a World War II Marine Corps veteran and was a member of the Marine Corps League.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Harold Lake; eight children, Karen McElroy, Leslie Lake, Chris Carlson and Becky Cassan, all of Spokane, Dan Lake and Cheryl Pease, both of Valley, Wash., Gerri Nielsen of Mount Vernon, Wash., and Margie Lake of Portland; two brothers, Thomas Taylor of Priest River, Idaho, and David Taylor of Springdale, Wash.; two sisters, Rena Leonard and Francene Taylor, both of Juneau, Alaska; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Osbury Haller Bellevue, Wash.

No service will be held for B. Osbury Haller, 84. American Memorial in Renton, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Haller, who died Sunday, was born in Spokane.

He served in the Army during World War II as a paratrooper and after the war worked as an insurance salesman.

He moved to Bellevue nine years ago.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Haller of Spokane and Steven Haller; four daughters, Kathleen Haller of Bellevue, Jonika Powell of Salem, Ore., Amy Hamm of Palos Verdes, Calif., and Glenda Travis of Spokane; and 15 grandchildren.

Helen Blythe Spokane

Service for Helen Blythe, 78, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Blythe, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., died Monday.

She was a 42-year Spokane resident and a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Allan Blythe; a son, Jim Blythe of Spokane; three sisters, Isabel Smith of Tracy, Calif., Mary Ennen of Ulm, Mont., and Martha Kvande of Great Falls, Mont.; two brothers, Lawrence Anderson of Black Canyon City, Ariz., and Emil Anderson of Placerville, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Gordon Zarko Spokane

Memorial service for Gordon Douglas Zarko, 72, is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church Mr. Zarko, who died Monday, was born in Fernie, British Columbia.

He worked as a truck driver for Layrite and retired eight years ago.

He moved to Spokane 37 years ago and was a member of St. Thomas More Parish.

He is survived by wife of 37 years, Margaret Zarko; three sons, Kenneth Zarko and Gene Apostol, both of Seattle, and Jacke Zarko of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Anna Zawadzki Spokane

Visitation for Anna Zawadzki, 83, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Pines Cemetery. Mrs. Zawadzki, who was born in Poland, died Monday.

She came to the United States in 1948 from Germany.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane County for 16 years. She previously lived in Newport, Wash.

She was a member of the Berean Bible Church and was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Rudolf; a son, Bruno of Zawadzki of Colville, Wash.; a sister, Emma Scheller of Medicine Hat, Alberta; and three grandchildren.

Harold ‘Bud’ Howell Prichard, Idaho

Memorial service for Harold H. “Bud” Howell, 73, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Lions Club in Rathdrum. Inurnment will take place at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum, Idaho. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Howell, who was born in Hauser Lake, Idaho, died Saturday.

He was a lifelong North Idaho resident and had worked in the timber industry as a timber faller before his retirement.

Mr. Howell served in the Army during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette, in 1995.

Survivors include a sister, Thelma Roper of Spokane; and one brother, Michael Howell of Concrete, Wash.

Luella (Kaufmann) Willoughby Spokane

Vigil service for Luella K. (Kaufmann) Willoughby, 89, is planned for 7 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Willoughby, who was born in Uniontown, Wash., died Monday.

She married Fred Willoughby in Spokane in 1935.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish and was a homemaker.

Her husband died in 1976.

She is survived by two sons, Bruce Willoughby of Casper, Wyo., and Homer Ailor of Deary, Idaho; a brother, Ed Kaufmann of Spokane; a granddaughter and two great-grandchildren.

Yoshi Parsell Grand Canyon, Ariz.

Memorial service for Yoshi Parsell, 57, will be at 3 p.m. July 8 at the Soka Gakkai International Building at 8019 W. Sunset Highway, in Spokane.

Mrs. Parsell, who died June 6 of ovarian cancer, was born in Japan.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Soka Gakkai International-USA, a Buddhist teaching organization.

She had lived in Spokane from 1978 until she recently moved to Arizona.

She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Harvey “Dutch” Parsell; a daughter, Holly Parsell-Bloom of Spokane; and two granddaughters.

Memorial contributions may be made to the oncology ward at Rockwood Clinic in Spokane.

Michael Looper Electric City, Wash.

Memorial service for Michael E. Looper, 49, was Tuesday at the Electric City Assembly of God.

Mr. Looper, who died Friday, was born in Bremerton.

He was a retired Coulee Dam police officer and had lived in Electric City for 12 years. He was a former Spokane and Coulee Dam resident.

He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Looper is survived by his wife of 13 years, Jody Looper; his parents, Marvin and Mona Looper of Wenatchee; three daughters, Tanya Looper of Spokane, Dawn Maiers of Grand Coulee and Mary Looper of Electric City; a brother, James Looper of Aberdeen, Wash.; and three grandchildren.
