Softball Teams Are Still Perfect At Mid-Season

Several Spokane Valley Softball League teams have reached the mid-point of the season unbeaten with makeup games yet to be played.

Standings for the second half will be restructured according to record.

In the 16-Under League, Walt’s Mailing is challenging unbeaten F&F Foundations after rallying past Northwest Images on Tiffany Schmidt’s two-run triple and belting Discount Garden.

In the second game Heather Demars was 5-for-6 with 6 runs batted in and Sarah Shryack, through four games, was 13-for-19, a .684 batting average, with 13 RBIs.

Undefeated in the 14 Under League are New Image Video and United Paints in American Division and Evergreen Physical Therapy in the National.

Melissa Wilcox of New Image totaled 16 strikeouts in two recent wins. Jennifer Lowerie had two doubles and two singles and Michella Jacobs hit three doubles in one of them.

United Paint’s Tiffany Jones hit a grand slam home run and triple against Spokane Golf Cart.

Other highlights: A-1 Dog Grooming, 4-1 at the turn, got a 4-for-5, 5 RBI effort from Mindy Greenan in one win and 4-for-4, 3 RBI game from Nicole Stengle in another.

Angie Kurtz hit two bases loaded triples for Hoffman’s. Katie Douglas went 5-for-5 for Zip’s. Emily Hiller with two triples and Kate Pospisil with one, each had three hits to drive in eight runs for Burger King.

Four teams, BMC Building Supplies, Power Bar, Adept Escrow and New Image Video are unbeaten in the 12 Under Leagues.

Andrea Manos powered Power Bar with a grand slam home run and three-run triple in one game, two home runs for four RBIs in another and a homer in a third. She also pitched and caught making numerous putouts.

Stoneway Electric’s Rosie Jablonsky went 5-for-5 against Carpet One and Alisha Miller’s three-run homer rallied the team over IHOP.

For IHOP, Kim Grover and Amanda Norwood each had three-hit games and pitched in two victories. Each also tripled, Norwood’s coming with the bases loaded.

Electric Security Specialists with overpowering pitching, Budget Car/ Truck and Olympic Sports are the 10 Under division unbeatens.

E.S.S.’s Spring Montgomery, for instance, struck out nine batters in three innings on just 34 pitches in one win. Tera Maki added four Ks.

Budget Rental got a grand slam home run in the first inning and a solo home run in the fourth by Brittany Sweet. Hilary Shields hit back-to-back homers as well.

Elsewere, Elite Coatings’ Shannon Garcia hit two doubles and a triple. Rusti Hooper hit a grand slam home run and scored three times for Leo’s Photography. And Wells Fargo pitcher Kendal Thurlow pitched three innings of no-hit ball, striking out eight.

Giants races tighten up

Races in the Spokane Valley Baseball Giants Leagues tightened up when three of four unbeatens were upended.

The fourth, Spokane Olympic Sports in the National Division needed eight innings to pull out a 4-3 win that produced Les Schwab Tire’s first loss.

Les Schwab, in turn, beat Greenacres Gypsum 14-11 to give Greenacres its initial defeat.

Leo’s Studio, in the American Division, lost 5-4 to Valley Firefighters on Blake Horgan’s seventh-inning single. It produced a three-way first place tie among once-beaten clubs.

Leo’s bounced back against Valley Electric on Yoshio Packard’s five-inning 16-strikeout decision. Robert Worley hit back-to-back triples in one inning.

Valley Firefighters got a no-hit shutout from pitchers Chad Mathison and Shae Lamphere to beat Happy Hatter 5-0.

Jay Pearson pitched a 10-0 shutout for Valley Electric over Autocraft.

Perfection Tire in the National Division won twice over Banner Fuel and Food Rainbow. Adam Curryer pitched the initial win and hit a double and triple to drive in four runs.

WV basketball camp

The Mark Kuipers Ladies Roundball Camp will be July 8-19 at West Valley High School, 8301 E. Buckeye.

Cost is $45 for youngsters grades 2-7, who will meet from 8 to 9:30 a.m. and for grades 8-11 from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m.
