Luncheons To Benefit Families Of Ridpath Shooting Victims

The families of victims involved in the recent shooting fracas at the Ridpath Hotel will be benefited by two luncheons on Monday at the hotel.

The luncheons, hosted by the Spokane Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau, will be at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. in the Ridpath’s Silver Grille.

Half of the $15 lunch will be contributed to the victims’ families.

Music scholarships awarded

Spokane Alumni Chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon will award $500 scholarships to Joyce Hawkins, a student at Eastern Washington University, and Mark Dungan, who attends Whitworth College.

The awards will be presented March 10 at a concert featuring the Northwest Woodwind Trio at the First Presbyterian Church, 318 S. Cedar.

Mu Phi Epsilon is an international music fraternity dedicated to the advancement of music throughout the world.

Tickets for the 3:30 p.m. concert are $6 and may be purchased at the door. A reception follows the concert. For more information, call 326-7255 or 838-1502.

Donation received by EMS

A $10,000 donation received by East Region Emergency Medical Service and Trauma Council from SAFECO Insurance Co. will be used to help develop Sober Roadways presentations and mock crashes in Eastern Washington high schools.

The Sober Roadways Campaign for Washington strives to reduce death and disability due to drunk drivers.

Kids and KPBX

KPBX Kids Concerts begin Saturday with harpist Leslie Stratton Norris at the downtown Spokane Public Library at 2 p.m., and the Westwind Quintet will perform May 11, 2 p.m., at Franklin Park Mall.

The free, KPBX Kids Concerts are fun, interactive performances, designed for kids of all ages, a spokesman said.

Goodwill employees awarded

Goodwill Industries’ annual awards banquet will be Thursday at the Ridpath Hotel’s ballrooms.

The name of the 42nd Goodwill Employee of the Year will be revealed and presentations made to other employee- and volunteer-award winners.

A no-host reception at 6 precedes the 6:45 dinner.

The Arnie Carruthers Duo will provide entertainment and humorist Patt Schwab will discuss taking humor seriously.

Love those mints

The annual candy sale by Camp Fire Boys and Girls continues through March 17.

Sale profits support programs which teach kids selfreliance and good citizenship. And, Camp Fire members can earn all or part of their way toward summer camp.

The selling process teaches boys and girls about goalsetting, planning, marketing, and money management during the three-week sale, a spokeswoman said.

The Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce is compiling the 1996 Directory of Community Organizations which contains more than 350 nonprofit social, fraternal, patriotic, service and economic community organizations.
