Notice Served To Freeman
A Missoula lawyer took two armed guards into the Garfield County freemen’s enclave outside Jordan over the weekend to serve legal notice that his client is suing their leader.
Matthew Sisler said he laid the legal papers at the feet of LeRoy Schweitzer as Sisler and his guards faced a semicircle of five armed freemen outside one of their farmhouses on Sunday afternoon.
His two friends, who work occasionally as process servers, did not display their weapons, and the freemen did not unshoulder their rifles or draw their pistols, Sisler said.
Sisler represents a Lincoln County man, Cajun James, who is suing for alleged breach of contract and fraud. James’s suit, filed in state District Court, asks for $640,000 in exemplary and punitive damages. James contends that Schweitzer gave him a worthless check for $1,424,800 for obtaining radio and electronic equipment.
