Whl All-Star Tickets Go On Sale

Tickets for the Jan. 22 Western Hockey League all-star game in Spokane go on sale today.

Priced at $13, $11, $9 and $7, tickets are available at the Chiefs outlet at the Arena, or at Spokane-area G&B outlets.

Stars from the West Division will meet a combined team from the East and Central in the Arena. A skills competition also is part of the package.

Revived after a five-year absence, this year’s game in Prince George, British Columbia, was played before a capacity crowd.

WHL commissioner Dev Dley, in Spokane for Wednesday’s press conference, said response to the all-star game is a preliminary step in judging Spokane’s bid for the 1998 Memorial Cup.

The championship of major junior hockey is decided in the Memorial Cup tournament in mid-May. It matches a host team with champions from the three affiliates of the Canadian Hockey League - the Western, Ontario and Quebec hockey leagues.

The 1998 site is expected to be announced in the spring of ‘97.
