Hackman, Best Lead Sasquatch To Victory

Freshman Tim Hackman pitched five shutout innings in his junior college baseball debut and Tyson Best drove in three runs as Spokane defeated North Idaho 7-5 in Thursday’s non-league game at Coeur d’Alene.

Hackman allowed two hits and struck out five through five innings in the Sasquatch’s season opener. Best had two hits, including a game-winning, two-run single in the top of the ninth inning.

Golf

The Fairways and Downriver golf courses are open.

Downriver opens at 10 a.m. daily on temporary greens. The driving range is also open. Tee times today are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. For weekend tee times call the clubhouse at 327-5269.

The Fairways is open daily at 8 a.m. on 18 permanent greens, as well as the driving range. Current greens fees are $11. For tee times call the clubhouse at 747-8418.

Idaho Sports Banquet

Four new members will be enshrined into the Hall of Fame at the Idaho Sports Banquet on March 30 at the Coeur d’Alene Resort.

They are: Dick Stickle, former director of the Idaho High School Activities Association; Ronald Porter, former Idaho Vandals and NFL football player; John Foruria, UI football quarterback in the 1960s; and Earl Acuff, ex-Vandals football player and champion racquetball player.

Tickets are available at the Coeur d’Alene Resort, Les Schwab Tires in CdA and Moscow, and The Smoking Lamp in Moscow.
