Boy And His Puppy Safe After Ordeal

From Staff And Wire Reports

An 8-year-old boy and his puppy were found cold but safe Friday after spending the night lost in the juniper and scrub brush near their Redmond-area home.

A passer-by found Kevin Coffey about five miles from the boy’s home. Searchers had been looking for the boy throughout the night in the Tetherow Crossing area near the Deschutes River.

The boy spent the night in near-freezing temperatures wearing only jeans and a long-sleeve shirt.

Kevin’s mother, Andrea Coffey, said her son was scared and tired but otherwise in good condition.

“I’m just very, very happy that he’s OK,” she said from a sheriff’s car moments after she was reunited with the boy. “I gave him a big hug when I saw him. And I’m going to give him another big hug when I get off the phone.”

The boy and his 3-month-old Rottweiler puppy Al hadn’t been seen since about 5 p.m. Thursday.
