Work To Begin In April On New Complex For Seniors

Construction will begin April 1 on a new 60-unit apartment complex for senior citizens in the Spokane Valley.

Grace Court, which will be located at 12915 E. Broadway, is being funded through grants from the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development and the state Housing Finance Unit.

All units at Grace Court are rent-subsidized for eligible residents who will contribute only 30 percent of their income for rent and utilities, said Shannon Kapek, vice president of Goodale and Barbieri Cos., the project’s consultant and property manager.

Anyone age 62 and over who receives less than 50 percent of the Spokane area’s median income is eligible to apply, Kapek said.

The project is sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Spokane. Two neighboring congregations, Christ Lutheran and All Saints Episcopal, also are involved in the development.

Each one-bedroom apartment will have a full kitchen and bath and the project will include several community and activity rooms.

The public is invited to attend groundbreaking ceremonies at 2 p.m. April 1. Completion of Grace Court is slated for early 1997.

The Spokane Home Builders Association has announced annual awards for builder, associate and remodeler of the year.

Lee Campbell, CAMCO Construction, was named builder of the year. Campbell has been a general contractor for 20 years and was president of the home builders association in 1995.

Tom Stewart, the vice president of construction loans for Action Mortgage, was named associate of the year. Stewart has been involved in the building industry for 19 years and served as second vice president for the association in 1995.

Bob Wright, of Wright Enterprises, was named remodeler of the year. Wright specializes in remodeling, sale and design of sunrooms and solariums. He is chairman of the association’s remodelers council and serves on the board of directors.
