Spokane Woman Killed In I-90 Accident

A 19-year-old Spokane woman died in a three-car accident early Sunday that blocked the eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 near the Sprague Avenue exit for several hours.

Kalee Role, a passenger in a 1987 Ford pickup that rolled over, died of massive head injuries, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Driver William J. Herndon, 18, of Spokane, was listed in serious condition Sunday night at Sacred Heart Medical Center. He suffered a fractured femur, cuts and scrapes.

Herndon lost control of his pickup on I-90 just east of the Sprague Avenue exit at 1:41 a.m., according to the WSP. The truck rolled and came to a stop on its side, with its undercarriage facing oncoming traffic. Two cars crashed into the truck, but those drivers weren’t injured.

The WSP is investigating Herndon on suspicion of vehicular homicide.
